Conference Awards

AWARDS CRITERIA

There are four types of awards at CASANZ19, and two types of presentation formats – oral presentation and poster display. The prizes categories are:

  • Emerging Air Quality Professional Award (formally the Young Achievers Award)
  • Innovative Presentation Award
  • CASANZ 2019 Best Paper
  • CASANZ 2019 Best Poster

Winners of the awards will be considered to have presented an original scientific or technical study investigating a novel application or an innovative research approach, of a standard suitable for publication at an international level.

The awards criteria are described in detail below.

Application and Review Process

All abstracts/papers submitted are critically reviewed by the CASANZ 2019 Scientific Committee as to their eligibility and suitability. They are rated based on the quality of the presentation content, the educational value and the quality of the written abstract. Applications may be offered a presentation format different to that applied for and not all applications will be accepted.

Emerging Air Quality Professional Award

The Emerging Air Quality Professionals (EAQP) award is for the best paper by a principal author that is in the early parts of their air quality career.  The EAQP has no minimum or maximum age requirements, you be the judge!  Either the category is relevant or not.

Judging Criteria:

  • Originality (weighting 25%) – original research contributing to cumulative knowledge base of field that is likely to inspire peers and has not been presented previously
  • Critique (weighting 40%) – scientifically sound contention/conclusion supported by robust evidence with critical and coherent analysis
  • Writing style (weighing 25%) – high quality of accuracy, clarity, readability, entices reader engagement and effective organisation and presentation of concepts, figures, tables etc.
  • Presentation style (weighting 10%) – use of clear, concise and comprehensible language with effective organisation and presentation of concepts, figures, tables etc.
Innovative Presentation Award

The award’s objective is to encourage participants to be innovative in the way the paper is delivered to engage the audience. The use of only conventional PowerPoint presentations is excluded.

Judging Criteria:

  • Originality (weighting 15%) – original research contributing to cumulative knowledge base of field that is likely to inspire peers and has not been presented previously
  • Research method (weighting 15%) – scientifically sound contention/conclusion supported by robust evidence with critical and coherent analysis
  • Presentation style (weighting 70%) – novel, innovative, entices high level of engagement and effective mechanism to deliver the paper’s concepts and conclusions
CASANZ 2019 Best Paper

The best paper award is a prize awarded to the author of the best paper at CASANZ19.

Judging Criteria

  • Originality (weighting 30%) – original research contributing to cumulative knowledge base of field that is likely to inspire peers and has not been presented previously
  • Research method (weighting 40%) – scientifically sound contention/conclusion supported by robust evidence with critical and coherent analysis
  • Writing style (weighting 30%) – high quality of accuracy, clarity, readability, entices reader engagement and effective organisation and presentation of concepts, figures, tables etc.
CASANZ 2019 Best Poster

The best poster award is a prize awarded to the author of the best poster at CASANZ19.

Judging Criteria:

  • Originality (weighting 20%) – original research contributing to cumulative knowledge base of field that is likely to inspire peers and has not been presented previously
  • Research method (weighting 30%) – scientifically sound contention/conclusion supported by robust evidence
  • Poster design (weighting 50%) – style and visual impact engages reader, high quality of accuracy, clarity, readability and effective organisation and presentation of concepts, figures, tables etc.
